IZT R5020

Key components of the IZT R5020 are a multichannel digitizer from IZT’s R5000 receiver series and a very high-performance, analog channelizer with overlapping bandpass filters.

IZT’s patented design outperforms conventional receivers by using a passive, low-loss channelizing filter with 12 overlapping frequency bands in front of any active electronics. Each output channel has a dedicated AD converter preceded by an electronic attenuator and subsequent low noise high linearity amplifier. Automatic gain control is performed independently for each channel. The receiver is still sensitive enough to be operated without a preamplifier.

The IZT R5020 design overcomes typical limitations of legacy receivers: Especially when large receive antenna systems are used, the input power into the receiver can be very high. In consequence, limiting the receiver bandwidth by preselection filters becomes essential. The biggest concern are second order intermodulation products which require preselection filters with less than one octave relative bandwidth.

IZT R5509

The IZT R5509 is the ideal solution for ATC direction finding to improve situational awareness and reduce the risk of misunderstandings in radio transmissions.

The IZT R5509 DF technology avoids misreading of the aircraft’s call-sign. This improves the situational awareness of the ATC operators and increases the safety level. That in turn, allows to handle more flights per operator for costefficient control of the airspace.

The novel DF system IZT R5509 features 10 coherent receive channels and is equipped with a 9-element antenna array to realize accurate and robust direction estimation. The utilized DF antenna with 9 elements provides superior immunity to multipath propagation. An optional center antenna element may be used for even increased spatial resolution. Beyond outstanding radio frequency (RF) characteristics, the antenna is equipped with lightning protection and is verified to withstand wind speeds of 200 km/h even under icing conditions.

IZT C5040

Complex operating scenarios for testing transceivers, terminals and satellites can be simulated. Effects due to modifications to the transmission method, the satellite or the terminal equipment can be simulated before implementation with the IZT satellite channel simulator.

During the lifetime of the satellites, the satellite channel simulator can be used to simulate and analyze effects and problems. IZT satellite channel simulators provide excellent signal quality and a comprehensive simulation of effects on a satellite channel.

The IZT C5040’s optimized and scalable signal processing units offer real-time simulation of influences on the signal at the satellite (non linearity, IMUX / OMUX filter, phase noise, interference, antenna gain, Doppler shift) as well as on the transmission link (interference, rain fading, scintillation, reflections, thermal noise). The state-of-the-art Graphical User Interface (GUI) allows changing all parameters of the setup easily. Remote control is possible through SCPI and SNMP.

With the IZT C5040 satellite based communication systems can be extensively simulated and tested prior to their realization. In addition, complex operational scenarios for equipment (receivers, transmitters, satellite phones) and satellite testing can be set up in a very cost-effective way. The IZT C5040 is a scalable system based on individual hardware units that can be configured from uni-directional links to bi-directional links with hundreds of terminals.

IZT R5506

Only a single hybrid cable delivers power to the mobile sensor and transmits the data to the shelter for post-processing. This makes the installation simple, no losses in the antenna cables affect system performance and signal integrity is maintained over long distances. In the result optimum dynamic range, sensitivity and direction finding (DF) accuracy with any given antenna array are obtained.

The mobile sensor IZT R5506 contains up to six high-performance receivers up to 6 GHz. The preselector bands are matched to the frequency range of antenna elements to maximize overall system performance. One of the six channels can be factory configured with a separate local oscillator (LO) to work as an independent monitoring channel. The IZT R5506 features a high stability internal reference clock and an integrated Global Positioning System (GPS) module. All the sensor’s functions are remote controlled via the optical interface.

The sensor is provided with a DF processor as an option. Further documentation is available on request. The modular design of the IZT R5506 offers the possibility of customer-specific mechanical modifications.

IZT S1000 GNSS

The IZT S1000 GNSS Realtime Simulator multi-channel, multi-standard functionality enables the generation, encoding and modulation of RF signals for important global digital standards and simulates real-time impairments. It can be used to meet a wide range of challenging test requirements as well as to perform integrated automated
sequences to reduce time to market.

It is complemented by a software-based Satellite Constellation Simulator, which simulates the satellite orbits by using a sophisticated orbit integrator including modeling of environmental parameters such as satellite clocks, transmit power, antenna patterns, ionosphere and troposphere. In addition, multiple types of signal interference, like jamming and spoofing, can be defined. To detect such disturbances for GNSS systems, the proven GIDAS system of our partner OHB Austria GmbH can be used.

Optional software modules can be used for the sophisticated simulation of interference signals on top of the GNSS signals including realistic simulation of channel power variations. The real-time RF signal generation is enabled by an FPGA implementation and a real-time interface between the IZT S1000 GNSS Realtime Simulator software and firmware. An additional real-time input interface is available in the software to offer HIL (Hardware-in-the-loop) scenarios.

For the most demanding applications, data can be streamed from an external Memory Extension directly into the FPGA via dual Gbit LAN. The 10 Gbit optical LAN interface is reserved for the GNSS. All kinds of signals for radio testing and any I/Q signals of variable sample rate as well as multiple signals, can be streamed at the same time to the signal source. Dedicated Ethernet connections via the dual Gbit Ethernet port make it possible to stream up to 225 MB/s.

It is easily possible to synchronize multiple IZT S1000 GNSS units in a phase coherent way. One of the IZT S1000 GNSS will take the role of the Master and the other IZT S1000 GNSS will be a Slave unit. This enables the possibility to generate multistandard constellations at the same time.

The IZT S1000 GNSS Realtime Simulator addresses a wide range of different customer applications. The customer benefits from its compact 2U form factor chassis. The chassis contains all digital processing hardware, synthesizers and RF sections. As a versatile and comprehensive testing platform it is offered with a broad choice of available hardware options. For a specific customer application, a single device or extensive setup can be equipped with the exact hardware as required.

High Frequency Stability

The IZT R5060 is available with different frequency stability options:

  • TCXO (default)
  • OCXO

All internal clocks are derived from a single reference oscillator, the built-in high-stability oscillator, which itself can be sychronized to an external source, the built-in GNSS receiver module or slaved to another IZT R5060 receiver via PTP. Once the LAN connection is removed, their internal reference oscillators will maintain highest frequency accuracy to ensure minimum drift of the time bases between multiple receivers.
